Kevin 'Bushy' White's Mining Artworks - These artworks were very useful for us as it gave us an insight into how the miners lived and worked.
Kevin 'Bushy' White's Mining Displays - These displays explained how the ore in the mines were mined in the past and the present. As our research question explores how the mining techniques has changed since 1883, these were very educational and since it was a visual representation, it was a lot easier to understand. It also gave us an idea of the proportion of the valuable ore bodies compared to the less valuable substances.
Albert Kersten Mining and Minerals Museum - Going to the mining and mineral museum definitely set us off in the right direction as our interview with Angela gave us a lot of information about the history of Broken Hill as well as a booklet of information about the miners' lifestyle. When we asked her to give us more information, she was able to give us new leads onto Brian Tonkin and the State Office Block, with contact details.
Photos from the Mining and Mineral Museum - As these photos are primary sources, they were valuable resources as they showed us what it was truly like at that time.
Broken Hill's current Line of Lode - This mapped out the current Line of Lode, allowing us to picture what is underground, where we would not have had the opportunity to see over the length of 7,500 metres. We looked at the demographics and it allowed us to see where the minerals were further in the ground, and which companies owned which part.
Contacts for further information- Angela advised us to contact Brian Tonkins who works at the Archives in the Library. When we talked to him, he was very informative and helped us find a lot of information about transport and mining techniques. The interview with him also helped us to learn more about what the Broken Hill community thought about mining now.
Contacts for further information - The State Office Block was the other place Angela advised us to go to. When we arrived, there was no one at the reception or on the first floor, but we ended up finding the department of Primary Industries which was where all the information about mining was.

These two pictures are photos of old maps of the mines in Broken Hill. When we went to the State Office, the lady allowed us to look at them and take photos. It was very helpful as it gave us an idea of how many mines there were and where there were located in relation to Broken Hill.
The Photographic Recollections Exhibit was one of the best places we went to. We gained a lot of in depth knowledge from the exhibit itself and also from Cliff who is the person in charge of the exhibit. Originally, we weren't going to visit it, however when we went to the State Office, the lady there suggested it to us and so we decided to go. Both of us feel that the trip was definitely worth while and helped us to further our progress on our project.
